Spoon to Headline at Fountain Fling
News — By Ashley Carufel on March 25, 2009 at 10:25 amFountain Fling will feature the indie rock band Spoon as the headliner, announced Program Board and Mount Vernon Programming Council Wednesday morning.
Spoon originally hails from Texas, and their most recent album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga was released in July 2007. The album debuted at the tenth spot on the Billboard 200. Their single “The Way We Get By,” from their album Kill The Moonlight, was popularized on the TV show The O.C. The soundtrack of the film Stranger Than Fiction was largely performed by Spoon, as band member Britt Daniel composed and arranged the soundtrack with musician Brian Reitzell.
“We’re very excited that we were able to book Spoon to play at this event. They’re a great live band that will be sure to attract a large and diverse group of students,” said PB Executive Chair Tiffany Meehan in a press release.
Fountain Fling is a new event this year, since PB and PC decided to combine the traditional Spring Fling and Fountain Day celebrations. Since renovations to the Smith Center did not leave PB with a rain site for Spring Fling, they approached PC to form one major spring event. Fountain Day is held yearly on the Mount Vernon Campus to celebrate turning back on the fountain on the quad.
Representatives from both organizations said that pooling the resources of both student orgs, and PB Parties Co-Chair Liz Kramer said in a press release that Fountain Fling would still feature the usual traditions of both events. Student performances, BBQ food, amusements, and giveaways will occur as usual.
Spoon will be flying in from a performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival to perform at GW.
Fountain Fling will be held on the Mount Vernon Campus on Sat, April 25 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
